Should I save the hydropneumatic compensator?

Hello all,

I am (still) parting out my 71 280SE (been terribly slow doing so, but am getting a little more flak lately).
One of the items I thought of removing before having it hauled to the junk yard, is the hydropneumatic compensator. Seems it would be worth the time, if I can get decent money for it (seems some used ones go for around a grand).

If the amount they are going for is realistic, what do I stick in its place? a piece of 4x4?

thanks!

-Larry

btw... why don't you buy the whole car from me? Head was rebuilt less than 200 miles ago, and so was the auto trans.

I would save it if it is not too much trouble to remove it. They can be rebuilt.

This one still appears to function.

If it actually works, YES, save it. Even if it doesn't, YES, save it. According to Jay Leno's 3.5 video, MB actually rebuilds them. Unsure how accurate that is, but I am sure other companies do.

I bought a rebuilt one from https://www.niemoeller.de/en and had to send in a core. It was about $1100.

These go for about $250 on Ebay. Used ones, that is.

You will see people asking more but $250 will sell it quickly.

And yes, they can be rebuilt but the only place doing so is in Germany. By the time you pay shipping and what not you might as well skip all the hassle and buy one from a known rebuilder.

I don't think Pelican sells these.

I have someone interested in the whole car. If he takes it, he will get a nice deal.
