W123 200 Electronic ingnitor and spark plugs
Hi,
recently I've installed the pertronix electonic ignition with High performance coil by torquemaster. As far i know, it should increase and improve the performance and even improve the overal quality of combustion and....IT IS REAL!! - More performance - More acceleration, -more stable on idle - Less consume What about special spak plugs such as Torquemaster, Pulstar, Brisk etc...? Does anyone had experiences with it? What's your suggestion? Thanks |
It does the laundry, walks the dog and waxes the tires while you drive.......
Let's not get too carried away with your expectations. Yes, the Pertronix is a great upgrade but it isn't going to add 20 horsepower to your engine or magically double your mileage. What it will do is reduce, if not eliminate, the "flutter" caused by the Kettering points originally installed on your car. It is a magnetic switch which gives a more consistent signal to the ignition coil. It won't cure a worn out distributor, bad vacuum advance diaphragm, dilapidated plug wires, vacuum leaks, worn cylinders, improper fueling, etc. Standard spark plugs are perfectly adequate and any "performance" plugs are a waste of money. NGK BP6ES are the plugs I use. Been running the Pertronix for three years in my M110 and M115 without any problems using the standard coil. It does seem to "smooth" out the engine and operate more consistently than the original set-up. I recommend rebuilding the distributor (bushings, seals, advance mechanism, etc.) to get the full value of the upgrade. |

I have Pertronix Ignitor I, along with original Bosch coil and switchgear, Bosch wires and at present NGK BP6ES. (working perfectly since 2008). Refurbished distributor mechanical advance, but not bearings because they are good on original and spare. Bought a Flamethrower coil, but never installed. More as back up in case switchgear ever fails and I want to use bypass option. Using Pertronix I as points replacement only is inexpensive and compensates for slight distributor wear plus gives steadier spark. And you never have adjust points again! |
And I also have been using the SAME spark plugs I originally installed when I switched to the Pertronix. Before, using the original switch gear, I would need to replace plugs annually if not sooner.
