Cylinder Head Compatibility for W108 280S 1971 Model
Hello,
I have a W108 280S from the year 1971. It is a 2800cc model, 6 cylinder in-line engine with two Zenith INAT 35/40 carbs. The engine # is 130920-12-043866 and the chassis # is 108016-12-089838. I am thinking of replacing the cylinder head with a refurbished one. The casting # on mine says 130 016 12 01 280S. The one that’s on sale and refurbished says 130 016 20 01 280S/A. From the looks of it, it looks like it’s for the carbureted engine and not for the injected one. Does anybody know whether this is compatible with my engine? Thank you very much!!! |

I know that the carbed 1969 280s m130 that I parted out seemed to have an air injection system that all the w114 m130 carbed cars I owned did not have. My w114 / m130 buddy down the road removed the head from the engine I was going to scrap, and cleaned it up beautifully. Then he decided he wanted to buy the seized block from me and freed it up. I could ask him for the markings on that head if you are interested.

The / A engines are late and the 280S engines are early versions. Totally different engines with different head gaskets. Early head gasket cylinder area is somewhat square while the late gasket is sort of pear shaped.
