W110 200 P (New Member)
Hi Everyone,
I am a new member here and my first classic inherited from a uncle. Its a W110 Petrol 200. Want to do a complete Restoration. It does have some surface rust . Have a few questions before I even start the project. I might have to order some body panel parts. Rubber Parts A) the W Screen seals (both front & rear) B ) Rear boot Seal C ) All 4 door seals Is it better to get the original from MB classic center , Second option seen different vendors online like German , Turkish makes . Which ones would youll prefer after the MB originals. also where can I find the part numbers for the above seals. Yes I do know where to get the suspension and brake parts from ......... Is there any post by someone restoring a W110 chasis where a newbie like me could refer & learn. |

You can find the windscreen seals from URO or Mercedes. I used a Mercedes seal in the rear window of my W110 and it had some fitment issues (a gap that caused water to leak), so I'm not sure if they're really worth the premium or not. Worst comes to worst, one can always caulk 'em up.
For the door seals, you'll have to hunt for them and they are expensive (but worth it). Overall, I would get the seals from whichever vendor/company offers a warranty so you can get your money back if they leak. |

I have used URO seals many times with good luck. The critical part is competent installation. You should use Mercedes sealer on the front and rear windshields. If you install them dry they will leak.

Thank You CTD & Dobrodan,
any more suggestions or experiences to share from other members . I am also looking for a few parts for my car ( TRIMS ) and whatever someone here is ready to part from his inventory for a reasonable price. It might be anything which a newbie like me would need at some point. So no post here on any complete restoration of W110.................. |

Make a plan as to what the level of restoration will be. A mechanical restoration is far better than a cosmetic one ( body / paint. ) if you have to make a choice.
Don't take the car all apart at once. Many cars get scrapped because the owner runs out of time / skill / drive. Rather than ending up with a pile of parts on the ground, restore / refurb each part as it comes off the car and before anything else gets taken apart. This way just about the time you are running out of steam, you will turn around and see shelves of fresh parts ready to go. |

Thank you SL 320. No wouldn't do that. I would like to do the body part first, mechanical next. \i have just taken a few trims off the shell , but I have documented by pics along with notes in ziplock bags.
Now I cant find to get the rubber seal for the boot. I would go for the URO since its for the boot. Any site where I could find this particular one. I know some body parts available but which is the best online place for the body parts. Please & Thank you. |

I think the reasoning behind that is that you don't want to work on an engine bay leaning on a freshly painted fender.

Thank you Thomas7,
I would do 1) body work and leave it with anti rust and primer 2) suspension and brakes 3) engine last painting when I have collected the trims and most of it back from electroplating. do correct me if I am wrong |

I would be inclined to get the car running and driving before tending to cosmetic things.
