Mercedes w108 250s half shaft/wheel hub
Hi all - really hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I have found out that the rear passenger side wheel has been held together by 2 bolts that are bigger than the rest and two of the holes have no thread at all. Someone suggested to helicoil it but my mechanic has said they are too far gone to repair. Anybody selling the wheel hub? Or know a fix around this? The last resort is to make the other bolts bigger too but I don’t want to do that! Any advice would be welcome - pics attached. |

Heli coils work in many applications however they don't like frequent dissassembly as the edge of a coil can lift during bolt install causing things to jam.
Time Sert is a brand of thread in a thread key lock insert that can fix larger holes and allows bolts to be frequently removed and installed. I'd find a replacement hub before drilling and rethreading a bunch of holes, mostly due to the labor involved. The hub really should be removed and put on a rotary table to assure hole location and squareness to the hub face. An alternate could be reaming , spot facing the rear of the hubs and installing press in studs. If you go this route, be sure to use the proper shape wheel nuts. Generally Euro cars have ball seat Vs the more common taper seat. |
