Exhaust leak on 76 280C (sans cats)...
I have an exhaust leak where my manifolds meet my 2 into 1 Y pipe. Is there a doughnut type gasket that goes in there or do I need to loosen and re-torque?

My exhaust pipes coming out after they meet the manifolds look like these except they "Y" into one pipe all the way back. I do not see any gaskets or doughnuts that go in the junction of the pipes. If I have a leak, I guess it needs torqueing <--------is that a word?

Mother Benz used various constructions of the manifold to pipe joint, although all of them are spherical. Some have a male sphere on the manifold, some a male sphere on the pipe, and some female spheres on both the manifold and pipe, with a double male "doughnut" between them.
If the spherical portion of the pipe, whether male or female, is not rusted away, cleaning of the joint, and re-seating of the spheres will usually eliminate leaks. |

And I'll add to Frank's reply by saying a thick smearing of an anti-seize compound such as Never-Seez will aid in both the sealing and future removal/re-positioning.
