Using a W202 steering wheel on a '93 W124

Hi Guys

Greeting from Cape Town, South Africa - this is my 1st post on this Forum.

I have a '93 W124 300d. I'd like to replace the standard steering wheel with a MB 390mm steering wheel, ideally from a W124 Sportline, however those are like hens teeth her in SA so the alternative is using a W202 steering wheel. I can get a wheel from an early W202 C280, complete with airbag in great condition - my car too, has an single driver's airbag. Has anyone done a similar conversion, does it or will it work? Although I've not done a test fit as yet, my MB techie advises that the wheel will fit the existing spline etc, however we're unsure of the compatability of the airbags and associated harness. Can anyone advise please?.

Regards
Jeff

If your car has a clockspring the wheel will swap right over. If your car has contact ring and brushes, you'll need to swap the contact ring from your old wheel into the W202 wheel. W124s had both setups, but I'm not sure when they transitioned. Your '93 is right around the time that would have occurred. When you have both wheels in front of you it will be obvious what needs to be replaced if your car has the earlier type of contacts.
