When to do an oil change?

Hi guys, I drive my 72 280SE 4.5 around 3,000 per year. It is garaged when not in use. How often should I do an oil change?

I'd do twice per year especially if short trips are involved, trying to time one change before long term storage if that applies. Some will say once a year is enough but the fuel management system on older cars wasn't as dialed in as today's cars leading to oil needing more frequent changes.

Good luck!!!

Annually, preferably just before storage.

As post 2 states, older stuff has poor fuel control and need more frequent oil changes.

Given you are in FL, do you park the car in the " winter " months? Changing oil before storage prevents acidic oil from attacking bearings and metal parts.

Once a year / 3 k miles should be enough. I'd pull an oil sample at 6 months / 1,500 miles and have it tested then decide if annually or 6 mo is the best time to change.

In any event, be sure to drive the car to full operating temp ( like 15 minutes minimum ) not just start car and idle it in the garage as not getting up to temp causes more damage than letting it sit.

No specific time involved . The more oil changes you do, the better it is for your engine .I do mine every 6 months this is the norm for most owners .

You could drive your car more, then the extra oil changes would be warranted.
