brakes for a 1968 200D

I have had a dickens of a time finding rear Brake shoes for my 1968 200D. Turns out my car is a gray market import. The only help I've gotten is from Phillip from the Benzbin, the guy is top notch. Still an awful expensive proposition, right at $250 for a full set. Any of you know of a place that will resurface a set of old shoes??

I sent two sets of brake shoes for a 1957 DKW to Dayton Ohio for relining. I only have the persons E-mail address. PStaneart@aol.com
He sells NOS import car parts on EBay. If he doesn't have shoes for your car he has someone in Dayton who can reline them. I paid (in January, 2001) $24 + shipping per axle set. The shoes are bonded (not riveted) with non-asbestos Johns-Manville linings.

White Post Restorations, here in Virginia, relines shoes for about $35 PER SHOE! They advertise in Hemmings. (Still, it would be cheaper than the $250 set you were quoted.)

Hopefully there's some place in Arkansas that could do yours or you could try Ohio.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Do you have DISC brakes or DRUM brakes in the rear? My 1972 220d had discs on all four wheels, plus small drum brakes for the parking brakes on the rear wheels. The shop manual covering W114/115 shows all cars having the same rear DISC brakes.

Is your car a 'New Generation' 115 body or a 'Finback' 110 body? (I read somewhere that Finback production lingered into early 1968.)

Hi Bill. Yes, the 68 was a finback (110 chassis). The last of that series. The brake drums were rusted on solid. I never could get them off the whole time I owned the car.
