Does it run ? Does it run well ? Can it be driven ? Does it look good enough to pick up chicks ? Does it look good enough so that your mom can sit in the passenger seat and you can still pick up chicks ? (My nephew just turned 18 yesterday and I'm giving him a mercedes sedan to start with. It won't meet that last criteria).
Worth is highly variable. Back in January, I picked up one that needs its paint polished, one or two interior pieces replaced (seats & dash are fine), the soft top was missing, and the engine EFI harness was damaged. I paid 1,900$ for it. The underside rust was repaired already and done well.
The other end of the spectrum is a pristine car that you would call a garage queen because you're too afraid to drive it and damage something. That might be worth 15,000$ on a good day.
Most of these cars are just pedestrian, run of the mill, pretty cars and can be had between 5,000$ and 10,000$ all based on cosmetic condition.
