The tappered rubber fitting on my fual tank has been leaking.. more so full than not. Anyway I thought it woul dbe easy to replace but now that I have messed with I can't get the metal fuel line backed out of the tank to get the old rubber off and replaced. How far in does steel line go? Do I have to loosen the line somewhereelse to get enough slack to back it out???

I got it .. I just had to pull harder on it. I guess about a quarter inch of the steel fuel line runs into the fitting of the tank.

BTW I wore vinyl gloves and tied strips of cloth around my wrists to keep fuel from running down my arms. I ran the fuel down as low as I could without going empty and then had to drain about a gallon more once I had gotten the fitting loose before I could work.
