New 'Jewels' for Miss Daisy
Well I just snagged (Sniped!) a set of bumpers for my Finnie. Been drooling over them all week. $51 each - from California! I hope they look as good as they did on the E-Bay photos. I saw none of the nasty brown blisters like the ones I have now. The seller had decent feedback - for what it's worth. (Oh well, I guess if they aren't all I expect I could resell them.)
Drove 'Miss Daisy' up to Frederick Md. Sunday after the ill-fated MB picnic and visited some friends. Took the scenic route to avoid 495 and 270 as much as possible. Fantasic drive but I think it's time to pull the drivers seat and add some new springs - the leftward list is making me saddle sore. Happy Motoring, Mark

My Finnie has got to be a running-renovation.
(I hesitate to say 'restoration') so I'm collecting various bits as I can find them. I've missed out on some other E-Bay parts or seen them bid up to rediculous prices, so I'm happy to get these as they should be a major improvement. Those bumpers are pretty thin and easily bent. If your chrome is still good, might it be possible to staighten it. I've had good luck in the past but having a hydraulic press availible helps. It seems to me that the simpler style bumpers like yours are easier to find than the double bumpers on the S Finnies. This spring, I saw a pretty nice front bumper to fit your car at the Vintage Import Show and Flea Market at Carlisle Pa. Happy Motoring, Mark

Ouch! If I had to look at it , I'd try to staighten it until I could find a good one.
Ironically, many years ago, my dad had a '60 220SE Finnie, with a very rusty rear bumper. The only decent one we could find in the local salvage yard was off a 200 so we went for it. It looked a little strange but much better than the rusty one. What shape is the rest of the car? does it run/drive well? Happy Motoring, Mark

I'd patched a major hole in the drivers floor when my 220S was with the previous owner.
The rest of the floors and trunk are in reasonably good shape and much better than in my '72 250 sedan. The worst rust on the 220S now is in the rockers and frame rails under the rear seat and over the rear wheel openings. I've cleaned out and started to patch the rocker panels. I'm aiming for a driver/renovation, not a concours restoration. If I can use the car regularly rather than letting it sit this will further slow the deterioration. I may be wrong but I seem to recall on the older diesels, you had to push the starter/glowplug knob back in before you could turn the ign. key off. Maybe the knob/cable needs adjustment. Happy Motoring, Mark

Da picnic?
Was this the GWS get together at the guy's estate in Potomac? Why ill-fated? I was away for the week so couldn't make it, but it has been worthwhile in the past.
On the topic, the best thing the local Benz club ever held was a flea market, which they did just once. Took a very nice evening spin back to Bethesda from Mt. Airy two weeks ago...a really nice stretch of leafy back road was marred for me by signs that this was the proposed right of way for the "intercounty connector" (outer Beltway). |

The GWS picnic was canceled due to rain.

TXBill,
About 10 days ago, 'Mercedes230CE' posted that he was selling parts off a 190c Finnie', complete except for some interior moldings. Maybe he has a decent bumper (or decent half of a bumper). Happy Motoring, Mark
