This is from my MB "Technical Data - Passenger Cars - Issue 1969" book:

Hex. screws or nuts for exhaust pipe on exhaust manifold = 2.5 + 0.5 mkp. Didn't say anything about manifold to engine connections for either intake or exhaust. From the conversion table in back: 1 mkp = 7.233 ft.lbs.

The MB "Service Jobs - Passenger Cars - July 1969" only says to tighten them (except "pre-tensioned spring connections").

I didn't double check the CD.

With this enlightening information maybe two grunts will do.

The spec for exhaust manifold nuts seems to be 18-21 ft/lbs for most MB applications. Enough to seal the flange on the gasket, but not so much as to strip the brass nuts (you are using the originals, aren't you?)

psfred,

Did you find anything for the engine side of the manifolds? I was surprised that it wasn't in my books.

These are studs in aluminum, correct? No more than 35 ft/lbs. I don't see any data for that, will look next time I peruse my borrowed training manual.
