Quality of gas?

So, the car has been running fine... Last week, I filler her up with premium from Shell. The car has been running rough, the oil pressure guage jumps a good deal, and it's hard to keep her running after a hot start. I nursed her until I got low on gas, then filled her up with 76 premium. She's slowly returning to normal. Finally, today the idle was smooth, and I've had no problems with hot starts.

Anyone else experience this? Any good recs for gas? Exxon?

Thanks!

The car can be tuned for high or low octain fuel so if it's been running fine with regular there's no point in putting premium in it.

I'm guessing that the higher octane fuel burns hotter and was throwing off the timing and making the idle rougher.. maybe somebody else has a better understanding of fuels for these engines.

I don't think the debate runs as hot as it does about what kin dof oil to put in your car but all fuel is not created the same. Th si one mechanic I knew went on about who to buy gas from.. he left me more confused than anything else.. gas is gas isn't ;-)

re

The weird thing - I've always put premium (91) gas in. Noticed some change with cheap, "bargain" 91 gas, but nothing ever like this. As soon as I filled the tank with 76 premium it ran like it used to.

Maybe Shell got a bad load... I'm just glad she's running normal again!

Lightbulb was it an old gas station?

I've heard it could be the age and care of the gas station, since contaminants in the holding tanks may be getting into your tank.

My guess would be bad gas -- I've always had very good luck with Shell -- their regular always gave me about 10% better milage on my old Audi Fox.

However, I'd avoid that station, who knows what fuel was actually in that tank!

I will find out how picky my 280 SE is when I get the replacement engine in, I suppose.

Different Stations

I usually buy Shell premium, and poured more Shell 91 into my tank from another station right after the problem hit. My car ran worse. Perhaps Shell Los Angeles has some bad gas (no Mike Myers pun intended).

She's back to normal now, but I warn my fellow LA friends to AVOID SHELL!!!
