Wink Wanna buy my project?

1970 280SE low grille coupe. Almost there. I am interrupting this project because I got a great deal on a complete and already restored 1971 3.5 coupe. Located in Silver Spring MD. Has some rust in the rear driver side quarterpanel (at the bottom). I was quoted $1020 for a complete factory quarter panel... $350 for a used one with some surface rust..... Do contact me if interested. I've invested around $5000 and will let it go for around half that. I am very motivated so take advantage of me

more pictures

The floors are VERY solid and the "seams" are perfect. (contrarily to the expected typical problem area with the 111 Merks). The trunk floor needs some panel work, the driver side rear quarter panel is in bad shape and should perhaps be replaced or bondo'ed up (depending on how anal you are... I would replace it). The Interior is OK for a car this age. Looks very nice as is but would be stunning on painted... The fenders and the hood are pretty decent actually. Runs but does not drive. May need a fuel pump I am told...

I need to move this one out so that I can focus on my 3.5 coupe...

#5 Poor: In need of complete restoration, but is complete and not a rust bucket beyond repair. May or may not run and drive. Not roadworthy.

actually...

The coupe is more like a #4.5 rating and the sedan is a #3.5 or better actually. Any offers?

#1 Excellent: A close to perfect original or a very well restored vehicle. Generally a body-off restoration, but a well done body-on restoration that has been fully detailed may qualify. The vehicle is stunning to look at and any flaws are trivial and not readily apparent. Everything works as new. All equipment is original, NOS, or excellent quality reproductions. (See show car description in How to Use section.)

#2 Very Good: An extremely presentable vehicle showing minimal wear, or a well restored vehicle. Runs and drives smooth and tight. Needs no mechanical or cosmetic work. All areas (chassis not required, but may be) have been fully detailed. Beautiful to look at but clearly below a #1 vehicle.

#3 Good: Presentable inside and out with some signs of wear. Not detailed but very clean. Body should be straight and solid with no apparent rust and absolutely no rust-through anywhere. Shiny, attractive paint but may have evidence of minor fading or checking or other imperfections. Runs and drives well. May need some minor mechanical or cosmetic work but is fully usable and enjoyable as is.

#4 Fair: runs and drives OK but needs work throughout the vehicle. Body shows signs of wear or previous restoration work. Any rust should be minimal and not in any structural areas. Cosmetics, body, and mechanics all need work to some degree.

#5 Poor: In need of complete restoration, but is complete and not a rust bucket beyond repair. May or may not run and drive. Not roadworthy.

Turnkey solution

I have
also found a rolling chassis to use for parts to go with this coupe. It's almost rust free and a solid body. The chassis would cost $800 and must be shipped from Portland Oregon. I offered $800 for it and will let it you instead buy it for that much in addition to the car (if interested. the buyer will pay for delivery charges though...). Pictures and details of the chassis can be seen at this link:

Great Details and Pictures

As I am desperate for space and do not want to keep paying for storage...
I'll sell my coupe for $3000! and the buyer may or may not buy the shell at their discretion.

Oh!.. Here's my newly acquired 3.5 coupe.

More Pics

And here is my "goal"...

What's the 4.5's condition and what would you sell it for alone?

Exclamation

very motivated indeed. I want to focus on my 3.5 coupe...

Here is the history of the 4.5

I'll let it go for a sensible offer.. I am sure you know how much these are worth... particularly with with complete history since day one.

purchased this car with the intent of bastardizing it and using most drivetrain parts in combination with my 3.5 coupe engine to bake up a 350hp engine..... sounds crazy right... . This car is too nice for me to bastardize besides I am chikening out of that hybrid project... might cost too much and frankly does not make that much sense....

It was purchased by the original owner in the Fall of 1971 in Stuttgart. The valve job was done in the mid 80's (about 25K miles since), which is detailed in the records.

Since I have had it, I have replaced the cap, rotor, points/condenser, plugs, battery, and fuel pump. It runs and drives..It would need a general tune-up and maintenance check I'm sure.

Minor rust is in the typical areas of the doors, truck, fenders, flooring -typical condition for Northeast Ohio. (not that bad... though)

The car has been stored for the last several years in a garage, and was not driven -- except occasionally starting it and keeping it "alive", but all is in working order except for the A/C that I am aware of.

The pneumatic door locks work, but over time the air does purge from the system.

the first decent offer gets it. It's in Maryland right now. Free delivery in the state of OH if purchased before next friday and I have a trailer going that way

Hmm, is that Astral Silver? (That's what my 280SE 4.5 is). I'll think about it, I wish I knew what condition the quarter-panels and trunk were in before purchasing it though. If it's good I could just use my current one for parts, etc and restore this instead

Oh and since I'm in PA, Maryland is closer... I'm assuming this is going to have to be trailered and not driven to NE PA?

Ok... $2500 for the coupe!

Hi everyone,

This is a really good restoration candidate. Take it away. It should not be parted out... it would be a shame!. I am a bit surprised no one is biting...
