W114 Vacuum Signal
73 280, M110 motor. Runs smooths as butter, even compression on all holes.
Hooked up a vacuum gauge and it is reading 18 lbs with the needle vibrating rapidly +/- 0.3ish pounds. It looks like scenario 3 in this animation, but at 18 pounds: http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/186.cfm (scroll about 3/4 of the way down). Is that normal on this car? |

Yes--'73 M110's in the US have more aggressive cams than later engines--in my experience all carbureted M110 engines have vacuum readings 1-3mm hg lower than one might otherwise expect--although timing advance variations will affect readings as well.

LOL, in that case I'm happy! I guess what made me scratch my head was the rapid needle vibration.
