How to remove oil pump from '66 M121?
Hi,
I finally have the (badly stuck) engine out of this poor thing - http://www.geocities.com/mb319camper . I'd like to get the crankshaft out so I can start trying to remove the pistons - but the oil pump is in the way. And it won't come out. There are 2 bolts that hold it in - an allen screw into the base of the block and a cap screw into a main cap bolthead. But when I take them out, nothing budges. It looks like the upper part of the pump housing goes into a collar in the block, and I'm guessing it's very tight in there - maybe some aluminum/steel siezing? But I've been putting penetrating oil in the "joint" at the arrow, and tapping the neck of the pump from side to side, and tapping the body of the pump away from the block - nothing moves, and I'm kind of chicken to tap very hard. Or to grab the thing with a pipe wrench. Anybody have a civilized way to get one of these out? Thanks... Kelly |
