My turn signals won't work nor my brake lights! I fiddled around under the shifter trying to get my stereo to work and after I did that they all just stopped working. I went to the junkyard and switched the hazard switch and it still doesn't work. Also fuses number 1 and 4 ( hazard switch/ inst panel) keep blowing out. If I turn on the HZD Switch fuse 4 blows. I stuck but I know it has something to do with the hzd switch. Does anyone know which wires go into what in the hzd switch? I know the brown one is ground, and the red/white is power but I don't know where they would go could that be the problem? It looks something like this.

Going back, what service did you do prior to the short? Is the stereo power tapped into the hazard light?

i took it to a shop and got it fixed. but I did try to get power from the hazard light for the stereo. do you know how the wiring goes?

In my experience it is best to use the orginal hot wire which is switched to the ignition. Or, you could run a wire directly to the battery with a larger inline fuse. The down side to this if your radio has an LED dial, it will cause a continues leak to the battery.

what do you mean switched to the ignition?

Meaning when the key is switched to accessories, the power is also on for the radio, windows, fan or what have you. When you turn the ignition off all accessories are switched off also.

thats how i have it right now, but when you cut the car off, it loses memory doesn't it? thats what mine does right now.

There are usually two hot wires for radios these days -- one constant direct from the battery for the memory, etc, and the other from the ignition to shut if off when you shut the car off. This is true of factory radios in the W124 and later.

I'd not splice into anything, I'd run a wire from the battery direct. Use the factory wire for ignition.

Check the documentation with the radio -- some are more difficult than others to get right.

I agree with Peter he is correct. The bottom line is on the direct line to the battery to place an inline fuse. If you leave the car not run for awhile this will slowly drain the battery. By taking out the inline fuse it will eliminate this. But you have to reset your clock and stations.
