Yikes! Just shelled out for an outside wheel bearing for my 68 250S!!!

Yikes! Just shelled out for an outside wheel bearing for my 68 250S!!!

When my NAPA guy told me the price, I thought it was April Fools day!

$4.20 !

Say what?

Turns out to be an old number, and same as a Chevy.

I think I will change them once a month for the hell of it!

Please be quiet about this. The only thing that keeps our hobby affordable is the belief that old MB's cost a fortune to maintain, thus keeping their prices low.

I respectfully request that you amend your post to indicate that the bearing cost $420 instead.

Bought a whole set of Timkens (at Autozone!) for about $25 this fall.

Not as nice as the German ones (which were the wrong ones), less expensive, and rather tight, especially the outer race, but seem to work just fine.

Make sure you don't overtighten them!

Thanks Peter

These were made in Mexico, and were SKG brand. Marketed by NAPA.

I followed the procedure in the Haynes manual and all is well.

The reason it failed was because it was too loose, and was spinning instead of the bearings spinning...

I am going to check the other side too, because there is evidence that the brakes and bearings were all "done".
