Oh .. do I have the same laundry list ;-)

Okay.. I just have the one loose leaf section for the carbs.. good info though..

I'll play with the IDLE mixture screw some nmore but it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

Imay try the distributor off my other car just to see if it's as worn as the other..I guess I'm also goignt o bite the bullet and pull the temperature gauge form that car as well.. as I won't be driving it for much longer.

>>>Assume that you used the little ring-like gaskets when you hooked up the exhaust. Best way to check for leaks is to hold your hand by the manifold-downpipe joint when the car is first started and the pipes aren't hot.

Brand new ring gaskets..but I'll check for air movement today..

>>>Now is the time to get the dwell right. If you set the point gap at .012" it will be close. Then time it to around 8 deg btdc w/o the vacuum.

Okay I'll try that too.. So I disconnect both vacuum lines from the distributor? BTDC would mean the 0|0 mark will move towards me right?

>>Also make sure you have no vacuum leaks - all fittings on the intake manifold and carb either used or plugged.

New gasket on manifold.. what do you mean by plugged???

Correct on the movement of the o!o.

There are vacuum fittings on the carbs that may not be used. Make sure that they are plugged. Also be sure that the fitting for the cabin vacuum is connected. You might try capping that one off in case you have a leak in the cabin system.

Cabin? As far as I know this car has no vacuum usage anywhere-else but under the hood?

If you have AC, then the system uses vacuum to move the flaps between heat and AC. Power door locks were an option, and they use vacuum to lock and unlock the doors, trunk, and fuel door.

It did have AC but I took all that stuff out. I'll have to poke around to see if it used vacuum for the flaps as they were but it di dnot have the options. Anyway if you saw my other post I have gotten the idle to be satisfactory by replacing the muffler. The car sound smuch better and quieter now too. Should have done that sooner. Now I just have to fix the acceleration.. if I hit the gas to fast it chokjes if I do it gradually it is fine. Seems like it could either be the choke adjustment or the fuel pumps..I'm hoping ti's the chokes.. the car did not have this problem before spo I'm hoping it is not the pumps as I don't wish to take these carbs apart again.

Idle mixture too lean, seriously unbalanced carbs, or low accelerator pump delivery. Latter is adjustable after top cover is removed, but most likely is either OK or they are not working at all (not much adjustment).
