Idling problem solved

Well this makes alot of sense but I'm surprised nobody mentioned it before.. the solution to my rough idling was in the end the muffler. I had bought a replacement several months ago but never got around to to installing it. The last mechanic that had worked on it said it leaked. Since it seemed imp[ortant that there be good flow through the early parts of the system it dawned on me that the muffler may be a problem and it was. After putting it on my bouncing idle stopped bouncing.

Yeha

The only remaining problem is that it hesitates sometimes when accelerating from a dead stop.

Cool move on the muffler, woulda never guessed that!

Your hesitation is almost certainly caused by a crusty accelerator pump.
Try cleaning it, or replace.

I have been able to get better accelarator by adjusting the choke covers and the idle mixture. Now at least it doesn't choke whebn I hit the gas hard.

On another note I somehow cracked one of my brake pads and thus the horrible sounds coming from them!

You seem to be having all the same probs as I've been having (well maybe not ALL) - I've been browsing through and alot of your posts have helped me! Have just discovered a wierd idle problem and found that the central muffler has a gigantic hole in it! Down to get a new muffler she (the Finnie) goes...and hopefully she will be perfect again.

Thats funny, I was going to post about how good mines been running since I addressed the same problem. Yesterday it was almost nimble out there! I haven't comitted to keeping mine so I just wrapped the resonator up while I decide.

Those darn mufflers.. The hard part is commiting to buy a stainless system ... with the new muffler I put on the end of my system it has been much better.. I imagine the resonator is probably clogged a little but I think it is still intact.. I should check it again.. I'm not smelling exhaust anymore so it think it's solid. The exhaust comes out with a good bit of pressure so I guess that's good?

So what is the resonator all about anyhow?

I still get a intermittent rough idle though.. I did a quick tuneup this past weekend and foudn the idle was low?? I adjusted that and sprayed the idle bores with cleaner and the chokes and it's running more evenly.
