Car on Ebay: jem or nightmare?

I have been watching this car:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6315&item=1873817563&rd=1

No one has bid. My wife is not surprised since she thinks it
is pure junk. I think it has great potential. A sunroof coupe.
It is rare. Not only that, but the serial number indicates that
it is a 220SE. Lots of work, though.
I bet the guy would have gotten some action if he didn't
have a reserve on the price!

What do you think of the car?

Scary.. not for the faint of heart. I'm in LA though and would check it out if anybody wants.

The sunroof coupes are rare all right, but the coupe market is very thin. A really nice restored model languished for over a year at the Chicago Car Exchange - the asking price had dropped to $16,950.

The ponton crowd wants the cabriolets.

So the trouble is that the coupes cost just as much to restore, but are worth less than half as much as cabriolets. This one really looks like a basket case. Anything can be brought back to life, but the economics are pretty dismal even if the car were free.

Listen to your wise wife on this one.

Probably an acceptable parts car for $500-$1,500. Buy it for more, or to restore? RUN.
