1972 300SEL Air Suspension

Does anyone know what, if any, type oil the air suspension uses? There is a small plastic screw off cover on top of one of the components of the air suspension on the drivers side wheel well that looks like a place to add/check oil. I did a search, but didn't find anything on this. Any help would be greatly appeciated.

I think that is for antifreeze (isopropyl alcohol), not oil. Do not use ethylene glycol! The antifreeze is pumped in to prevent condensation from freezing the air lines.

You also need to "blow down" the air tank periodically to remove the antifreeze and residual water -- see other posts on this issue.

You have to use denatured alcohol. Check out www.m-100.org for info.

Which model 300SEL? 2.8, 3.5, 4.5 or 6.3?

The caps are there to simply keep it clean, it does not use oil. Then check your alcohol resevoir, install rubbing alcohol, NOT ANTIFREEZE.
