'52 170ds Help!

Just got my new 1952/53? 170 ds HOME.
I did drive the car the other day,had to pull start it.
I am now trying to get it to start on its own.It has 2 batterys?I dont think this is correct ,does anyone know?It is a diesel.it has an incorrect "alternator" instead of its bosch generator ( which I NEED!)I also need a COOLING pipe coming off the engine block.
it has a om636 engine.I have searched the internet and havent found too much on this model. If anyone has any info as to where to get parts, manuals, and I really need a front bumper !:p

Well, I could be completely wrong but my logic would say one is probably for the starter and the other is for the ignition system

Yow! what an evocative view out the windshield!!!

The two batteries are probably two 6volt batteries. If so, they will each have 3 filler caps on top instead of 6.

The "12 volt, large battery" was needed to start a diesel. Very common.

I am sure Tomguy was kidding about the ignition system, but his smiley didn't come through!!!

I think that the later model Ponton drivetrain will probably fit your car, so you could be looking into these models for parts.

The alternator is a good solution, just not original.

Not bad...

It's a nice car. I'd love to have one of those things. I hope you can get it fixed up without too much hassle. Just looking at the pics of all these cars makes me wanna just go out and buy another one right now...
