Water pump installation on M127 engine
I removed the water pump to replace the gasket on my 1963 220SEb cabriolet. When I removed the pump I took note of the installed washers. As I reviewed a parts manual, I noticed that one washer is depicted behind the pump in the 2 o'clock bolt position. My parts manual only shows one washer regardless of how many are required in other bolt positions. When I removed the pump there was no such washer! Did someone forget to put a washer there on a previous pump replacement? Does that bolt hole continue on into the water jacket and require a brass washer? If so, should I have a washer both in back and in front of the pump on that bolt?

...wow Gregg, wish I could help.
Many times a parts book will only show one washer because it is assumed that each bolt will have a washer. But you are saying there is one washer behind the pump. Doesn't sound right at all, unless there is an indent for it. Or perhaps the parts book is portraying an O-ring?

Here is the illustration of the water pump and its parts. The washer that I am referring to in the initial quiery is #35 in the picture. Is it a rubber o-ring or a copper ring gasket? Also does that particular bolt pertrude into the water galley?
