220D in BC on ebay

Hello,

Is anyone familiar with this car on ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0&category=6329

It's in BC.

Also, what are the regs on importing a vintage car from Canada to the states? Is it a 20 year cut-off that cars have to be federalized? I apologize in advance if this has been covered in the archives.

Thanks,

Peter

Re: Bad link

Looks pretty nice but $2500 is about the right price.. I don;t think it's really going to be worth much more than that.

Whatever you do, you've got to see it to believe it.... Ahem, there is no mention of rust. The pic looks like it was taken several months ago. And 40 mpg is a stretch.

If you open a dialogue with seller and the car doesnt move at whatever reserve he wants, you might be able to negotiate with him after the auction expires. Am guessing that he's hoping to get about $3,200 and has listed this car on e-bay before.

You havent given your location, but cant you just obtain temporary plates then drive the car home?

4 cylinder diesels are highly prized by their owners, but generally shunned by the public at large. I own two 240D standard shift diesels and would quickly jump on any 114/115 standard shift diesel at bargain price, but the seller of the e-bay car seems a little bit optimistic about the value.

I agree on all points. I sent the seller an email yesterday morning and have not heard back yet. I specifically asked about body work/rust.

I'm near Boston, so temp plates and a quick jaunt home is not an option.

Looks like a great 220D. But then what? It will dissolve in the salt of the Northeast, has terrible performance, and is largely unwanted by the MB crowd. Parts are just as much as those for more desirable models.

I think it is overpriced as it stands.

Importation regs.

The car is exempt from EPA regs after 25 years.
