Would this happen to be a gas or diesel engine? And, what is your temperature this time of year?
Please include your year and model in your reply, Thanks!

Thanks for you reply, I’m looking to buy a 280S gasoline 2.8, 6 cylinders, this model was built from 1967 to 1972 but I don’t know the manufacturing date for this particular car. This is one of the problems I have detected, the whether were its hot, average 15ºC in winter and 30ºC in summer, also I suspect the car is stop since 1991.

I would recomend you drain and clean the tank first before trying to start the car. The old bad gas will clog your carbs.
Also change all the rubber gas lines (hoses). They are no good.

The car was probably left with a full tank of gas, and the slimy stuff is the residue when most of it evaporated.
Clean fuel will cut it at least some, and carburetor cleaner will remove the rest. You probably want to pull the tank screen (large (24 mm?) screw in the center of the bottom of the tank) for access and to drain it all out. Make sure you get it out of the fuel lines, too, or it will plug the fuel pump and carbs. It could also be residue from a melted fuel gauge, in whick case only carb cleaner is going to soften it and let you remove it. Peter

Sitting since 1991?
You are going to have to get all the gunk out of the fuel system. Drain the tank, clean the strainer. Disconnect the feed and return hoses. Replace them. Clean out the short metal lines from the tank with a piece of wire. Squirt carb cleaner in the long metal feed and return lines, let it sit overnight and blow out with compressed air until clear Replace all rubber lines in engine compartment. Replace fuel pump. Replace fuel filter Remove, take apart, and clean carbs by soaking in carb cleaner, rinse with water and blow out with air. Remove, clean and reinstall all jets. Replace gaskets and accelerator pumps. Install new carb base gaskets Clean inline filters in carbs. This is what I had to do to get my 250C running in 2001. It had sat since 1988. Good luck.
