280SE ready to go

Well, we finished putting the new subframe mounts in the 280SE today per her new owner's request. I also did a major service (oil and filter changed, trans fluid and filter changed, new air filter, new belts, new plugs, etc..). Boy, I'm going to miss my baby!

Aaron,

You will probably kick yourself in years to come for parting with this classic-especially in dark green!

Question; Did you switch the wheels to alloy, and if you did, did you notice a better ride with the alloys?

I think the original steel wheels were 6x14, whereas the alloys are 6.5x14...

Ed and Clunker:

I actually have the original build sheet for this car and one of the options were the forged light alloy wheels (option number slips my mind this second). I do have a set of steelies with dark green caps in my shop from another car but I like the alloys better myself. These look to be original, and seeing as how the car was once clergy-owned (Lexington diocese) I can't imagine it was messed with much, so I think these wheels are the exact ones that were on the car in 1970, not a set from a newer car.

Clunker: Yes, two women were actually hassling me to KEEP the car!! My mother and Kristen!

Aaron,

You really should keep it. Is it too late to change your mind?

You don't have another one like it in your collection.

Get rid of a duplicated model instead.

(just my opinion. )

Larry,

The decision to sell was tough indeed but with other projects looming overhead, something had to go and I was pleased to know that the 280's new owner is an enthusiast and will be having her serviced by one of the best MB shops in the Boston area. Right now, my 6.9 and my TR6 are both in need of work, the 6.9 needs transmission work (again, ugh!) and I'm going to do a stripdown and rebuild on the TR6's engine.
