I've come full circle- return to 108!
Eight years after I sold my first 108 chassis car (a 70 280se arabian grey/beige on black tex) and one VW, one BMW, and five other Mercedes (various diesels) later, I have finally returned to the fold: a 73 280sel 4.5 will very soon be on its way from San Diego to my place in VA. Maple yellow on black, sunroof, all original beauty. Just in time for spring, so I can sleep in it and not get frostbitten!

Sunroof, yes.
Whitewalls, uh...., no. I think they've been changed since this picture, actually. Hopefully. It arrives 3/28, absolutely cannot wait. If you see this 4.5 somewhere between San Diego and Charlottesville, VA next week be sure to say hello to my bud Allen, if you can catch him that is... -JAS |

I agree, my Gina cries out for whitewalls!
But I don't know of any good brands which offer them...

white walls
240 Ed-
Exactly- It is hard to find a white wall tire that is not on par with a bias-ply tire in terms of technology... I was raised in opposition to the white wall tires on American cars, with the nod going instead to a nice fat Michelin on a good-handling Mercedes. While the 108 has classic looks, I still prefer a set of inconspicuous blackwalls that deliver good handling and a good ride. The compound of the usual cheap white wall is very hard, providing high mileage but poor ride quality and abysmal handling. I'll take a set of Michelin MXV4's in size 205 70 14 for my 108- Thanks for all your thoughts on this- -JAS
