What a difference a tuneup makes!

Just put a new set of points in the 280 -- what an amazing difference it makes! Idle was slow and rough before, after it was about 1500 rpm ! No more stumble, rattle, or lurch, either. I may be able to set the mixture properly now, too! Already I can tell the difference in fuel consumption, the gauge is barely moving now on a trip to town and back.

Still need to double-check the advance mech. someday, it feels strange (the rotor will rotate etiher direction -- makes me think a spring is off. Also need to clean the trigger points anyway, but not this weekend.

Peter

Change in weather too.

For those who view engines as living and breathing things - there's no time like Springtime for tuning and tweeking ignition systems for better performance.... next the valve adjustments, and finally the carburetors.

Nobody ever said that working on engines wasn't outdoor activity.

Good to hear the 280 is up and running Peter. Now you can get my seat covers finished. Just kidding. How's that project coming along?

gympie:

My brother is heming and hawing about the color of the leather I bought for his, and since I've had to drive the 280 to work every day, I've not taken a seat out yet. Will be doing that this week, espcecially if I can get the d....d Volvo started (no fuel in the IP....)

The vinyl (cheap stuff) covers I've done so far for the W115 don't look too bad -- need to pay more attention to which way the pleats fold down on the seam, but otherwise pretty good.
