'77 450 SEL Euro version: spark plugs??

Friends:

My '77 450 SEL has only about 62,000 miles on its motor. It was a one-owner cherry, but which sat garaged for some months at a time (only 10,000 miles over last 10 years).

IT IS A EURO VERSION. I may have to replace spark plugs. What would be the appropriate plug for this motor, remembering - of course - that it is a euro version?

Thanks. Happy Holidays, too!!

Euro versions probably specify a colder plug than US versions due to the higher speed driving conditions in Europe. Since the car is now in the US I would recommend the same heat range that D-B specified for US models.

The owner's manual should have the Bosch and/or Beru spark plug number, but it will be for a Euro model, so you need to get the US plug number from someone with the same year US model.

And stay with the copper plugs for this engine. Many people have reported difficulties with the older M117s when they tried to switch to platinum plugs.

Of course, I'll go with the coppers. I learned my lesson a while back, with another V-8 Benz. The platinums just don't fire right or idle correctly.

Do you think the usual auto stores will stock the Bosch W8DC'S?

This has to be considered one of the most basic Bosch plugs there is.
Wish my life was that simple, try getting F7 KTCR !

Bumping this thread...

I need plugs for my 74 450 SEL. What's the general opinion here? Bosch seems the first choice for many, but what exact Bosch plug?

Thanks.

I think all 4.5s use the W7DC (NOT w8dc), but most people would recommend the NGKs over Bosch. I haven't tried the Bosch but I can say the NGKs work very well. FastLane has them, F1000-37070, $2.19 per plug. BP6ES. Don't get the WR7DCs listed, they're a resistor plug.

The Bosch part finder lists a W9DC for my 1976 450SEL?

Whats the Fastlane number for the NGK equivalent or should I go with the BP6ES?

Michael

Odd... FastLane lists BP5ES for yours... Try those out, I suppose!
