I don't want to replace the D-Jet with K-Jet. In my mind, that's regressing. MB dumped D-Jet because K-jet was easier to make pass emmissions tests.
However, I do like the K-jet manifold's larger intake and throttle body. That I'm going to try to adapt to my 4.5 and I'll let you guys know how it goes! edit: I also have no idea how the hell you could replace a 108/109 chassis suspension system with a 126's. I can NOT see that happening at all! Pop the engine and tranny in? Sure, easy. The suspension? Not happening. I'm either gonna blow my 4.5 up in modifying it (and then pop a 5.6 and matching tranny in) or I'm going to have good success. Let's hope for the latter, shall we?

yeah k-jets a step back, you're money ahead putting in a modern efi computer. djet runs ok, but you could have it run better, and get better mileage, hotter spark etc etc

Examples of a modern EFI system
Can you give me an example of a modern EFI set up that can be used?

there are plenty, most of them are setup to be put in cars that originally came with carburators, or race cars.
http://]www.haltech.com we've used these for years on the rotaries and they work great. megasquirt, motec, electromotive all make ecu's that will run a v8, not really inexpensive, but its fully tunable and setting them up is easier than cobbling together an ecu off of another car. mike |

You will not be able to to find one adapatable to a 4.5 or a 4.3. You can not show me an example of a conversion for those engines, perhaps its just not worth it.

There is a EFI conversion in the market fo the 6.3. Dale Cherry in Penn supplies them. Replaces the Mechanical fuel injection systm.

I would like to see that system, a link would be nice. Also Karl Middelhauve has been making a EFI system for the 6.3 for several years. There is no system for the 4.5 or 3.5 however, seems that with so many out there they should have been some intrest. Looks like the day that I drop a 560 in mine will become a reality after I finish with the body and interior.

Dan is referring to Karl's system. Dan has the second such system ever installed, after the first system that Karl did for himself. Karl's system was engineered by Dale Cherry for Karl and utilises components from, and is based on, a system originally engineered for the 302 Ford (5.0) Mustang engine. It uses two custom-made fuel rails made from billet aluminum, electronic injectors, and magnetic crankshaft position sensors with a pickup system.
It is laptop-tunable and customizable. I helped the shop that installed it get the computer (laptop) set up and running the software. Cheers, Gerry |

Intresting. This is a really great forum. Thanks to all for shareing. For me the more I think about it I may drop a 560 in my 300SEL. My wife has a 86 560SEC thats really fast, I may own that drivetrain in about a year. I would try to transfer as much of the car as I can with the exception of the suspension. First finish the paint and interior.

Thanks Gerry, you can recall the names of th parts much easier tha I can.
On your 560 idea, some will complain, "gee, it isn't original". My opinion, "so what". Your 560 idea is great. There is a Euro company putting 560s into 111 and 112 now. That 560 is a great engine. Powerful and cheap to keep tuned. Use the 560's tranny and rear diff. I'm not huge on being original, some are. Only your opinion counts. You drive it and pay the bills. Only other choice, th 350 Euro version. High revs, quick and dependable. 6.3s are for other reasons and if you don't have a great tech, forget it. |

I agree, I was watching an auto auction last week and a lot of "hot rod" modifications were going for big buck. The real key is doing it right. Don't know if I could use the dif of a SEC though, I've got a 109.

I don't think you can use that with the 4.5 computer, you can't program it futher more there is no hardware to hook it up to. What I am trying to say is that it is not intergratable with the D-jet, maybe with the J-Jet .

tosbt: It could be done. Almost anything could be. It's a matter of time and money
I have thought about putting a 560 engine and tranny into my car, but I've also been thinking of just modifying my 4.5. It's more fun when you do the modding yourself!
