White and ivory available on '72 models

Anybody know how many whites, ivories, creams, etc., MB offered during the '72 model year?

I'm getting ready to paint, but won't be going back to the original color (Anthracite Gray) - I just don't like dark colors with the bright red leather in my interior.

Some of the Light Ivory colors I've seen are too yellow for my taste (they're almost beige) and most of the Whites are too bright and harsh (they remind me of kitchen appliances and toilet bowls) - I think what I'm looking for is a creamy white or what they call Bone in shoes. Any ideas?

Olson's book lists 629 Cream, 158 White Gray, 181 Light Beige, 670 Ivory all available in '72. Don't have a ready source for chips, but I do have an original MB color chart from the later 70's that I picked up on Ebay--worth tracking, as sometimes the right piece pops up.

. . . plus 050 white, correct?

How would you describe the difference between them?

Unhappy Hmmmm . . . .

I've been there before, but their list doesn't match the data in Olson's book (posted by cbdo).

Paintscratch has 737 (classic white), 131 (pastel white), and two different light ivories (623 and 670), but it doesn't show 629 (cream).

Maybe I should just use the 2002 Thunderbird Ceramic White and be done with it!

I think you are on the right track in regard to using a currently available color from another car. Why don't you hit a few car dealerships and evaluate the colors of their products? Future paint matching would be less traumatic if your selected color is used on a mass-produced domestic model.

Suggestion: Cadillac offers three shades of white, including a creamy color called Cotillion White.

Cotillion?

I just went through the last 10 years of Cadillac on www.paintscratch.com, but couldn't find a Cotillion White listed. Would it be prior to 1993?

I did find a 2002 Cream White (clear coat) listed, though. The name, at least, holds promise.

Yes Cotillion.

I just left the www.cadillac.com website and did a "Build Your Own" of a 2002 Deville in that color. It probably is the cream white found on paintscratch.com.

Interesting . . . .

I did find Cotillion White where you did, but it doesn't show up here:
http://autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/searchpic.pl?2002-gm-pg03.jpg

Cream White does, though, and I think that's close to what I'm looking for. Perhaps GM called the color Cotillion White when on a Cadillac, and Cream White on Buicks (or something).

The MB chart for 1972 that I found shows Ivory (DB-670) to be noticeably darker - http://autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/searchpic.pl?1972-mercedesbenz-pg01.jpg

A caution: The chips at autocolorlibrary, while a really great idea, don't necessarily translate well through scanning and monitor reproduction. I checked a few colors on cars I know (including my own) and found I didn't get that accurate a rendition from the chip on my monitor of the color as it shows on a car. Rats--'cuz I was really hoping for a minute there!

MDN, I still think your best bet is to patrol Ebay for a color chart.

I don't expect absolute fidelity, but I'd think the relative color on a given sheet would be accurate (which one's darker, etc.).

Hello,
Take a look at W111.net. In the *tecknik* section, there are paint codes and colour plates (look under MB farbcodes).
Have a good week.
