Out of curiosity...

What are the differences between the 4.5 and 5.6? They both are M117-series engines. Are any parts interchangable in the valvetrain? I wouldn't think a piston would be, but would the cams be "Higher performance" if compatible at all?

The differences are significant; the 4.5 through 1980 was an iron block, but MB changed to aluminum from 1981 on for the 380 and 560. Don't know how much is interchangeable, but I'd expect not a great deal.
