propeller shaft frustration (63' 220s)
i had gathered all the parts necessary to replace the propeller shaft except one (the out-put flange off the back of the tranny) that was supposed to be delivered last wednesday. well it was delivered except because i wasn't home they delivered it to the manager's apt. my manager signed for it but then left for vacation, not to return till tuesday. in the meantime i hung the drive shaft and pretty much waited till yesterday. so, last night i finally have both old and new part together for comparison and i quickly realize they sent the wrong flange. the one they sent has 15 slots to slide onto the spline, while mine has only 6. 7 days wasted for nothing. i now have four yards looking for the right piece... i guess this is not a common flange.
i had a similar problem with my transmission's front pump. it seems my tranny has anything but standard components. Last edited by murray720; 05-29-2003 at 02:54 PM. |

Where did you get the parts from?
Did you go to the dealer to verify part numbers, they should help you out on that. But, since they transferred everything onto Microfiche, they say some was not included. Good luck, Josh

i ordered the flex disk kit and tranny out-put flange from Tri-Star Pete in Arizona. i have found them, for the most part, to be decently priced, knowledgeable and quick. pete offered to replace the flange with the proper one but then realized he didn't have it.
today i made my local MB shop/mechanic/yard rounds and stumbled across a guy who had a 6 slot MB out-put flange, and to top it off he only wanted $25.00 dollars for it. knowing i can't beat that and only later to be disappointed, i took an extended lunch to pick up this little treasure, 6 slot - yes proper diameter - no. complete freeway closings plus 3 hours of traffic do not make for a pleasant disposition. on my way back to work i decided to stop by another MB mechanic (Prestige MB) who said he had it and HE DID!!! it was more expensive but still worth every penny. i hate the hunt. **side note - Prestige is an extremely helpful father/son team with extensive knowledge and resource. also i have a great contact at my local mb dealer but there's some parts which either are too expensive or he just can't get. i've found for most of my MB projects i need to have two to three contacts per project. for this one needed 5: -drive shaft rebuilt at local MB Yard (warranted for 1 year) -tranny mount from dealer -centering flange from smaller mercedes yard (new) -flex disk kit from Tri-Star Pete in Arizona. -correct out-put flange Prestige MB |
