From the 'Springtime for Hitler' collection....
Check out the, somewhat chilling, 'Vintage Mercedes Poster 1943 Repro LOOK' on the 'Parts for Sale' Forum. Happy Motoring, Mark

If it's like the Mercedes staff car my friend Han's stepdad got his hands on after the war (Rommel's, I believe), it has a mechanical blower like a Bently, clutched in by the gas pedal sorta like a kickdown switch.
Hans said it was quite a ride -- 120 to 160 hp instantly (the staff car was a straight 8), but it didn't last long. Rod started knocking on the test run, he and his stepdad riding on boxes since the interior was shot. This was about '50, I think, when he was ten or so. Seems such things as Nazi staff cars were sort of an embarassment, fairly common, and usually in very poor shape, so nearly free. His stepdad was an SS chauffer, so knew what he was getting. To bad it went bad on that drive, probably ended up in the dump. Peter

I snapped a couple of pics of this car at the Lakeside Yacht Club Car & Boat Show here in Houston. I have no idea what it is but it looks a lot like the model you all are talking about. I beleive it belongs to a local collector, as that is the source of most of the cars in that particular show. I love to know what it is. This show is held in the early spring in the NASA area of Houston.

Now I know. The guy didn't seemed to be exhibiting the car, it looked like he was using it to pick up chicks. He was doing ok. Any idea of the approx model year?

The Browning Automatic Rifle was by no means a SUB machine gun.
It fired full-sized 30-06 cartridges and weighed nearly 20 pounds. The various sub machine guns in the US WWII arsenal (Some Thompsons, some British versions and some of the later "Grease Gun" design) mostly fired 45 ACP pistol ammunition, same as my Colt model of 1911 semi-auto pistols; stopping a 45 ACP bullet was no big accomplishment for armor, because the round nosed bullet only travelled at 770 feet per second, whereas the pointed bullets from a 30-06 travelled at 2700 fps in the armor piercing version, and 2900 in the lighter bullet version.

i wonder if the v16 was an aircraft engine or a hand built engine with a built up block similar to the grand prix engines?
i have no idea if an aero engine is small enough to fit in or not. and yeah, even though a very powerful engine might be installed 150 mph seems pretty unlikely. well over 100 though would seem quite possible. a duesenberg will go over 100, i am pretty sure. there is a large staff car in the gilmore museum in kalamazoo, with 1" or so thick windows. it apparently was shot into with one window open as it has nicks inside some of the windows. it has a large six. i dont know what model it is. (maybe a 380?) i havent seen it in many years but i need to go back out there and see what they are doing these days. the benz was completely original and a little scruffy when i last saw it. i suspect it may well still be in the same condidion now. tom w
