Seat repair
Hey vintage MB experts! The front seat bottoms in my 1978 240 D seem to have inside supports (springs?) that are broken down. The seat bottoms are not as soft as I would expect and are a bit wobbly. I'm new to these cars (1 month) and would like to know what I can do to fix the problem. Should I have a repair shop take care of the problem or is it something I can do myself? Keep in mind I'm a bit of a mechanical numbskull. Many thanks for your comments and insights. Buzz

Buzz, seat work seems to be a pretty typical DIY. Many things MB have a rich history in posts on the board, and seat work is one of those; search the board under "seats" and you'll find more than enough to help you out.

MB seats use a coil spring setup, so they move more than the typical american seat. They are rather hard in the older cars, although they aren't really uncomfortable, just hard.
A set of seat springs from the junkyard, passenger side, will neatly replace the ones you have if they are sagging. The MBTex seats were a bit harder than the leather, but by now they are both about equal. The cotton padding in the leather seats gets pretty durn hard after being sat on for 30 years! Peter
