+++ head compatibility +++

Would a head for a 1968-72 250 fit my 1967 250s?

The diference that I can see is that the valve is "ondulated" on the right side insted of strait like my 250s. apart from having to get a valve cover and gasket, is there any other consideration?

Dan, I'm suprised you haven't had a reply.

I know nothing but that the 2.5 liter six in your car is a bored out version of the fintails M180 motor while the 114's 2.5 six is probably a next generation entity.
No doubt you knew that but just my .000000002 sense.

Serious question thats got people scratching their heads....

3 issues come to mind:

1) Camshaft timing gear allignment...... offset woodruff - or will it work direct with perfect camshaft timing??

2) Manifold variations - intake and exhaust manifolds identical in each version?

3) Moot question of basic allignment of head with shortblock cooling and oil ports.... but possible discrepancy between cylinder head bolt lengths.... which head gasket to use (this will tell you that ports line up).

Off the cuff, knowing benz I'd be amazed if newer series head did not bolt right on without any problem.... Even though 68-72 were cusp years for changes, you are basically working with the same short-block.

I say go for it!!! .....but find out how much metal was removed in planing / reconditioning cylinder head. You might want to find thicker head gasket to reduce compression and extend engine life.

Y'know that undulation must have been for 68 and maybe 69.. as the 71's and 72's don't have it they are also straight.. maybe the hea don your 67 is not the correct year??

I think this could work.. I saw the auction this head was in and my only concern was how many times has it been planed.. anyway it's not too much money to risk considering what a NOS head would cost.

You should try to compare the cooling and oil passages if possible before hand.

The head on my 250s is the "stait" type.....according to the CD.
You guys are right about 68 being a pivital year for change...
My guess is that MB decided to make both Card and FI head the same to save on cost mabe.....by havind those "ondolation" strait of the bat, they could only "drill" in the ports for the FI version!?
I will contact the seller and see if he as more info the head before making an offer....after all $200 is still $200 down the drain if it do's not fit!

Thanks

Hello,
Let me add to the confusion that Mercedes created in those years:

1. W114 250 engine would be a M114 with single row timing chain BUT seven bearing crankshaft.

2. W108 250S engine should be M108 with double row timing chain.

3. US market and ROTW W114 250 after 1972 got the M130 engine with double row timing chain and cooling improvements.

Without knowing the part # of the cylinder head, it is a waste of time speculating if it can be used on a 250S.

Can anyone supply part #s for the corresponding cylinder heads so that 1967250s can figure out which cylinder head his car needs?

This is the description of a gasket on ebay for a 250.....

*** This brand new head gasket set include the head gasket and the manifold gasket. This is Original Equipment Manufactured imported from Germany and designed to fit your 250 from 1968 to 1969 with chassis W114.010 and engine 114.920. Mercedes Benz list this item for $180.00 but we are selling them for a fraction of that cost, Mercedes Benz part number for your reference is #114-010-0080 or 114-010-6520 ***

So I believe that this head would not fit my 250s engine 108.920, in any case, I will not take the chance....... onless I have abselute positiveness that it do's

Edit : Take a look at manya's engine bay 1966 250se Engine bay pics

Have contacted the seller for number of the head......no reply yet.
