1953 Mercedes Pictures
A while ago I believe I said that my friend and I found a nice 1953 Mercedes-Benz parked in the parking lot at a Columbus Clippers baseball game. I couldn't find the owner, but an older man at the gate noticed me looking at the car and said it belonged to a veterinarian living in London, Ohio(25-30 miles west of Columbus) and that he uses it as a daily driver. I don't know much about it if its gas or diesel... all I know is its a 1953 model. Take a look....

I never realized how small those cars actually are........ with someone standing head and shoulders above the roofline.
Its gotta have much smaller exterior, narrower windshield, etc than any cabriolet that followed...... and running boards narrow the body too. |

It's a 220. It should have an OHC gas straight six with about 85 HP.
Happy Motoring, Mark

Sweeeet!
From Barrett's book, it's a 220 Cabriolet B; they were made 1951-53. There were 997 of them made. The engine was the M180, an inline six of 80 horsepower; 0-60 took about 20 seconds.

Wow.. less than 1000 made 50 years ago. Anyone have an idea how much these cars sell for? Whats the deal with A models and B models? Which are better?

I'd imagine, by now, that the difference between an A and B is insignificant -- unless you have SERIOUS cash, you aren't going to aquire either one. Not very likely to see both of them together, either.
Nice car! Peter

A vs. B
Simple--and I hadn't known it til I went back through Frank Barrett's book last night; it's titled Illustrated Buyer's Guide Mercedes-Benz, in paperback at something under $20, and fun reading as well as informative.
The Cabriolet A has no rear seat, and therefore only the front side windows. The Cabriolet B has a rear seat, and rear side windows behind the doors in addition to the front ones that are in the doors. Value for a Cabriolet B from a couple of sources tops out at 42-45K for a top flight restoration, going rapidly down from there as conditions go through 2 and lower.
