'71 280SE A/C Trouble
I have been having trouble lately with the A/C losing it cool so to speak. After having the system recharged a few weeks ago the system seem to have lost all it Freon. I did notice sound like air leaking coming from around the compressor. So I took it into the local Mercedes repair shop that done work on all mine families cars and asked them to check it out.
I get the call back from the shop and get the bad news. All I remember know was that the compress was leaking. The mechanic that usual works on my cars gave me the following suggestion. Parts to replace: Compress (w/Rotary type) Bracket Belt Dryer 2 Hoses ( I assume Discharge & Suction) Liquid Line Fan Clutch 8-10 hrs. labor Total Damages around $2000.00 Does this sound reasonable. From what I have been reading on the forums it's seems abit outragous to me. Not sure what the current compress is that in the vehilce, it was installed ~8yrs ago. It black and has Lester-12 on on side and on top it has the folllowing: G32 12-5515 if I got it right. Any suggestions or thoughts... Lost, Hiller |

That doesn't sound awful to me considering all the new parts, and it is a lot of work. Admittedly not the same, but I spent $2300 doing basically the same thing to my 300E.
