What's the advantage of all the additional stuff when the Petronix system fits completely within the distributor?

Pertronix install link

Here's a basic install for the pertronix unit -- Randy Durrance had a lot more knowledge on the subject than anyone, so his unit choice was mine as well.

I was accually going to have a Crane x700 system installed in my 250SE but the day I got home after getting the quote the head decided to crack
Have to start saving again

Also, can the Hi-6 be installed after installing the x700, or do you have to do it at the same time?

I hope you can find someone to part with one at a reasonable price. Maybe if you post a want here someone will come forward with one? Its such a nice looking car you have there !
RE: HI-6. It can be installed later, or before - it is completely independant of the points converter kit. I ran one with points when I was working on the Crane XR700 and it ran as well as with the conversion. The conversion kit will just extend (or eliminate) ignition tune ups, the CD adds performance and is probably more important. IMHO.

PS I finally found a Talbot mirror for my passenger side fender.
the head is at the machine shop now being repaired (thank god MBZ made heads out of aluminium and not cast iron ). So it's not that bad...only the hole in my wallet to patch up

What was the cost of the HI-6 system? about the same price as a x700?

Just in case there are any 220SEb owners out there that would like to convert to Pertronix, if your distributor model is : VJUR63R 49T, then your Pertronix model is #1684. That is what I have installed in my 63 and it works like a charm.

dieseldiehard - I paid extra for a new coil also, my understanding is the xr700 unit provided longer spark with the new coil. Are you saying that the Crain HI-6 will give me more power? Also, are you saying that the HI-6 it is just an add on and all of the xr700 remains in place?
