I think it's VERY humerous that he modified it to say "V6" when most of the emails HAD to have said "Inline 6." Even if he looked at the pic he should have been able to tell! Oh well, he'll get 130 MORE emails

V-6, what a joke!

I don't think MB even came out with the 3.5L V-8 in 1969. Time to check my sales brocures and production books. I hope the bidders do their homework on this one.

The best I can find is that the 3.5 was introduced as a 1970 model; one source says it started production in 1969, though I don't remember it being an option when my folks bought their 280SEL in September of that year. AFAIK, all the V8 coupes and convertibles did indeed have the lowered grille.

$20,500!!!

Seems like a fair deal for all. It is encouraging to see a six cylinder coupe bring this kind of money.

I noticed the estate guy finally figured out what kind of engine it has.

I had an interesting conversation with a lady that is selling a "71 280se with v6". When I asked her to clarify the engine she said it must be a v8 then 'cause it's a big car. Oh yeh, she said it's diesel. I said thanks alot, I'll think about it.

From the Ebay Ad:

" A New Update!!!

Another Mercedes Correction

My Mercedes is a In-Line 6"...

Which is what I originally wrote the guy after seeing the engine pic that he later removed. $20K seems a fair price but I bet a lot of hearts stopped after looking at the original ad.

OK people, I want you to know that I have really slept well since after first almost falling in love with this car, then I started this thread, and when I discovered (thanks to the knowledgeable individuals that frequent the Shop Forum) that this car was not only described inaccurately, but when the seller withdrew the photo - I completely dismissed any thoughts of buying it.
I hope the buyer gets a decent car, if by any chance they ever read these posts, please stop by and let us know how it turned out.

oops! Bad Karma - see neg feedback on eBay

Things are getting interesting, just when I thought this thread was dead. Check this out!

The buyer of a '72 280SE see:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6329&item=2429205462

left comment "Paid in full using wire and received a bondo bucket with a lousy repaint!"
It seems like this seller really has a way with words when it comes to descriptions on eBay.
I can't wait to see feedback on the 280SE 3.5 V8 ala V6 engine!

Isn't it strange the seller seems to find two REALLY LOW MILEAGE cars in a row! a 1972 with 19K then a 1969 with 12.8K - really now, this seems too good to be true!
I wonder how bidding for the coupe would have turned out if the neg feedback on the '72 had been posted?

I saw that too, and that MB looked like it was in VERY good condition. I have a feeling this seller is FAR less than legitimate. He probably picked it up dirt cheap, had a half-ass body repair and repaint done on it, and sold it for over 10x as much! Not to mention that the car has either 100K miles (at least) over what he states, or, being less-than-scrupulous as he sounds, he took the speedo out and manually changed mileage!

You have to be one optimistic cat to buy a 30 year-old MB without seeing it in person.

Well, judging from his winning bid history, the buyer is DEFINITELY a dealer, so he should have known better. It's interesting, though, that both the buyer and the seller have good feedback, except that they each left bad feedback on this one deal. Something is definitely weird around here...

Something is really wrong when eBay will let a seller relist using a different sellers identity!
Check out the "new SAN MARINO ESTATES" on eBay! see:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=2439229045

1969 280SE with 13,300 ORIGINAL MILES - gimme a beak!

I wonder if everyone that read this saga notified eBay of their dislike for this crap, what they would do?
Probably nothing, as they are getting a percentage from this SLIMY USED CAR SELLER everytime the auction closes, aren't they?

I got the PPI and it has a cross threaded spark plug. To fix it, the engine has to be removed.
