Symmetry radial michelin

Anyone use these tires? on the 280ce we have to put tires on and the tire man says these are good for that car, not to mention the price was 250.00 installed out the door.

Lincoln uses this tire on the Town Car -- I think it is just a very average tire.

I would not even be on my list for that car.

I heard that they're very cruddy tires, and that equally-priced non-Michelins outperform them in everything. If you want a good Michelin tire, I've heard that the Harmony is good. I put BF Goodrich Advantage's on mine (60K mile wtty) and they handle very well and seem to get awesome wet traction.

I've got Symmetry tires on my 560L. The PO, clearly not a real car guy, put them on, and they're new enough that I'm going to run them a while. The best description I can give you is "inoffensive". For my car, I'm likely to replace them with Dunlop Sport A2's, which I put on my last Saab to replace the Michelins it came with; quieter, rode better, handled as well, and better in the wet.
I've had several Michelins over the years as OEM on Saabs especially, and never found them especially great.
Tirerack.com is a good site for research.

Thanks fellas, I had that second thought feeling about them.
I'll see if he'll do the harmony or the bf goodrich.

He did mention a new tire out from bf called the traction hr.
On the 250c we have the goodyear reggata's which peformed fine
and have lasted like 5 years.

Yeah, in fact, I looked at tirerack.com after I posted that to look at reviews of my tire and the symmetry:

BF Goodrich: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=Control+T%2FA+M65&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=07SR4CTLTAM65W&fromCompare1=yes

Michelin Symmetry: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Symmetry&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=07SR4SYMW&fromCompare1=yes

They are cheaper, but look and notice how most said they would probably buy the BF Goodrich again, but not the same with the Michelins. Also, look at the traction and ride ratings. Ouchies for the Michelin!

When I was first looking at tires for my car, I found the Firehawk Indy 500's. I was thinking of getting the blackwalls for my car but I just decided on the dealer advantage and outstanding warranty that Sam's Club has on their tires in getting the BF Goodrich's. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Firehawk+Indy+500&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=07SR4FHI500RWL&fromCompare1=yes

The Indy 500's would be on my car if the Firestone dealer's computer wasn't down the day I NEEDED them on (Read: Day before my inspection appointment, a week before I had to move to school). But Sam's Club has the BEST warranty on tires: I will get my tires replaced at little (if no) cost to me if they wear before 30K miles, and pro-rated (very decently) anywhere up to 60K miles! Not to mention that their road hazard kicks - I got a BAD flat by running over someone's broken shock mount (NOT MINE! Thank god!) in a tunnel by my house, and it resulted in a totally trashed tire. I got a new one for free, no questions asked. If you can, get your tires at Sam's Club!

As I've been Tireracking, looking around for my MB and one of our other cars, I keep getting a couple of the Bridgestone Turanzas popping up as recommended--might be worth a look.

Thanks again everybody, its neat to hear what all the members think and recommend for tires.Tomguy, that was reallya nice post,
and after comparing, reading, and thinking which brands in the past gave good value we went with the regatta 2 .The tirerack
has fantastic prices no one locally would match plus the install those for those prices. 55 a tire , but I called the Goodyear dealer in Burbank and he gave a price of 75.00 each installed and I said
how much they were online, so he said how about 66.00 ea installed and a pair of Kings tickets, don't much care about hokey but heck maybe one of the guys will.

I don't care for Goodyear's much... The Jeep originally came with them and they wore out after 15K miles. The Intrepid has Goodyears on it now and they've been on a measly 10K miles (if that) and already show bad wear. Hopefully though, you'll have a better experience with them. Good luck and tell us how it handles with them!

Yes! the car has a new lease on life with the regatta 2's
very happy , on the way home went thru the canyon and
less body role as well as pretty good adhesion. 70-80 was lovely!

But you know I am in ca and the weather and roads don't see
any snow/salt so?

I also admit that on my hot rods the Goodyear ta's were always fun. I had a cuda 71 that ate tires.. so mileage... well true not the best, but in the fun department yes. We'll see what happens with the mileage on the 280 vs. wear.

the worst tires as far as wear were the yokohoma's on the jap rx7 I had .. car had 78k and after 15k mi there were toast.

why we didn't look into the bfg's was my mother thinks the are bad and she is the main driver for the 280ce. Tiger paws were great on a custom dodge truck I had, really made the no power steering ok.

Tom.. as you might notice I have a very bad auto habbit ...forgive me for talking about all those other makes? its almost like dating?
wanted to drive a couple makes before I fell in the love with the merc's

I suppose you can say that - some people (like myself) get the right car (or person) right off the bat and know it's (or she's/he's) the one. Others have to look around a bit. But it's nice to see that you settled on the right type of car, even though it took you some searching

Thinking about some good new tires to replace the 10 year old Pirellis on my '60 220S. Trouble is they're 185/80R13 and 13 inch tires are becoming an endangered species. Last year, I had some difficulty finding 13 inch Michelins for my '84 Honda but finally found 4 Michelin WeatherWise at NTB. I've been generally pleased with them on the Honda (except for paying too much) but those aren't availible to fit the 220S.
Any recommendations here?

Have also considered possibly converting to 14 inch rims from a W114 but not sure as to fit, clearance, offset or hubcap issues.
Any thoughts here too?

Thanks in advance.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Pirelli has discontinued the P4000 in 14 inch size, for some reason and I suspect they did the same with the 13 inch tires. I really like the way Pirellis handle, tire wear is not as good as Michelins, and I particularly dislike Michelins, their pricing has gotten way out of line and the tires are hard and noisy. I saw a set of Pirelli P4000 13-inch tires at a wrecking yard, I was ready to buy them because they were hardly used, but when I saw they were 13 inchers I was disappointed. Too bad your not closer to the left coast.

Yeah, being on the wrong coast happens alot when I'm trying to find stuff.
My 220S Pirellis are P300s. They have minimal cracking and still ride OK but they're over 10 years old. Years ago, I had a set of P44s on a Sunbeam Alpine. They were great tires and cheap. One ame apart after 8 years. Of course they were no longer availible when I went to replace them and the Pirelli replacement was more than double the price. I checked the Tire Rack site for any 185/80 x 13 (Nowhere to add the 'R' in their search) and came up with 1 listing for a bias ply trailer tire. Last year, when I got my Honda tires NTB's computer still listed some 185/80R13 tires.

Has anyone here ever fitted 14 inch rim from a 108, 114, 115, or 123 to a Finback?
Original 14 inch rims were availible to special order when my car was new but those might be impossible to find now.

Happy Motoring, Mark
