Tom:

No, it broke coming off and the new points didn't have a new one.

The oil is probably coming from the mess I made getting my mechanical advance to work -- lots of PB Blaster, ATF, and oil in the center of the shaft, and I guess I didn't clean it up to well. That and 10,000 miles on the points. Probably time for a Pertronix Hall effect. In fact, I'm looking that up right now!

Sounds as if you have a spring loose. Sadly, you will have to get the pin out of the gear to get it apart, and I gave up trying to drive it out. Will probably have to heat it up good with a propane torch sometime and get it apart, put new seals and new bushing in.

Peter

I saw an auction on eBay motors for 3 distributors a while back. I was thinking about it but shipping alone was $15...
If it comes up again I'll bid on it and you can pitch in 1/3 of the price if you want one of them!

It's a nice idea but I don't think they'd work - arent they breakerless? My distributor is probably different.

The advance curve is probably different, but there is no reason not to use a breakerless ignition. You might have to find the appropriate switching unit and coil in the yard, though. Physically, they will fit, especially the 77.

And, unfortunatley, the likelihood of me finding that is slim. I'll check the 420SEL next time I go, if it's still there.
