62' 220

I found this car here in Dalton this weekend and I am seriously considering the car. It is owned by a gentleman who has 32 old classics and he is auctioning them off in a few weeks due to health issues. The car has over $5000 in reciepts from 1990 which included new head and engine overhaul. The car starts and runs super. It is a 4spd column shift. It has an in-line 6 I believe. The pin for the column shift is broken? So I could not drive it. The paint is pretty faded. The interior is great. It has new tires and a new battery. He wants $2200 for it. Hmmmm.

The 220b is the simplest of the 220 line. It has two single barel Solex carbs and doesn't have a lot of power. It's adequate though. The 220S/SE had more power and fancier tail lights.

This car was made before the improved version in 1963 and has drum brakes and single circuit brake lines. FYI.

If there has been lots of work done on the car, it would make a fun project to bring up to speed, so to speak.

Watch that rust though.

Looks nice, but ....

... if you can't drive it, you need to assume that something in the running gear (trans, rear end, brakes, shocks, etc.) will be bad and adjust your price accordingly.

Trouble is, if you paint it, you're under water.

Early massive, wide band uphostery with center armrest/console seat pad combo look outstanding....... thats the only center armrest MB ever made thats high enough to be useful..... ALL interior woodwork, including wishbone windshield strips, side window pieces and dash itself from 220Sb will bolt right in...... Paint can be rubbed with polishing compound to restore finish if it isnt cracked or checked. I once had Colorado car 220Sb that looked like dirty black chalkboard. It buffed out nicelly with lotsa work... Comeback with pics of bad shift linkage under the hood or underneath and we can probably diagnose the problem.
