'77 450 SEL Euro; 4.5; Vacuum line problem!!!!
This is the engine without emissions controls; and with the hot cam and 225 HP.
Stupid me. Awhile back, I somehow dislodged the SHORT Red line from the vacuum advance on the distributor. Now I can't find where it goes inside or on the engine. This is the red line about 6-7 inches long. Don't know if it's the advance line, or the retard line. Meanwhile, car runs relatively well with timing retarded a bit. But noticeably worse without the advance connected. It's about time I did this. If you ACTUALLY KNOW where this line disappears to, and any tricks on getting it in without removing the plumbing, etc., I'd be most gratefyul. Please. Don't want to spend labor dollars at my indy shop for soemthing so simple. Thanks!!!!!! |

I'm not sure where the line goes on the Euro spec engine, but I'd bet it's similar to the US spec.
Take a look at the hose -- is there a rubber connector on it or is there just a plastic line, broken off square? If the connector is there, get a flashlight and look down on the passenger or driver's side of the throttle body -- I don't know which side. The nipple is on the passenger side on the 280, but I've been told it's on the driver's side on the 450 model. It will be WAY down there, at least 6 inches. No way to get your hand down there, you need a very long pair of needle nosed pliers or a long vascular clamp, etc. Replace the rubber connector, too. The fitting HAS to be somewhere where the hose could reach if it's not broken. If it is, the other end will still be within reach of the bit you have, you can splice with some vac line. The vac is a retard line, I think, not advance. The advance is mechanical. Peter
