Timing Chain on 280C
I'm looking at a fairly decent 1974 280C as my first M-B purchase. The car has 73K miles, and appears to have been a well maintained car. The owner said the timing chain broke. Is this engine an interference engine, or should the engine be OK if I install a new chain? Any insight is appreciated.

If the chain actually broke, then the head will need to come off and you will be looking at replacing some number of valves which bent when they hit the tops of the pistons. There may be other damage as well.
Probably worth pulling the valve cover off to see what is going on. I would also be suspicious of the mileage - 73K is pretty young for a chain to let go.
