Gasket Name?
I need a gasket that goes on top of the water pump. I was in between the water pump and a whole assembly that came off of the top. The assembly was connected to intake manifold by way of about a 2 1/2 inch hose that was about 3 inches long. My uncle, who was helping me with the car, said that he thought it would be something like a temp gauge of temp check gasket. Fastlane has two different water pump gaskets, but only one of them has a picture. I will draw a little sketch of what the gasket would look like.
Thanks for all of your help. Tim Edit: My uncle thought it was the thermostat housing. I just remembered. Last edited by Tim's__Benz; 12-14-2003 at 07:56 PM. |

Thermostat housing gasket. Replace the hose, too, it it looks iffy.
Use some Neversieze or equivalent on the bolts, I had to replace on of mine when I did the waterpump. Peter

Same place I get all my parts -- European Connection here in Evansville. Hans gives me a pretty good discount, so I buy everything from him. I sometimes think I pay his mortgage....
You should be able to order it from anyplace that sells MB parts, they might even have one in stock since you need it to change a water pump. Peter

Give Import Parts Specialists (Boise, ID) a try. I looked up that part in their catalog at
www.ips-parts.com and they have it for way under $5.00. They even have a picture so you can be sure it's the right thing. They call it a water pump gasket, though. Put in your year and make, then select the model, then put "gasket" in the search box. Catrinus 73 280C |

The water pump gasket is completely different. Look at its picture, then look at the one of drew. They are completely different.

Neat web site! Is it the small gasket in this picture?
http://img.eautopartscatalog.com/live/G300015665GEB.JPG I didn't search, I just entered your car info and drilled down through the catagories on the left of cooling system and then water pump. On the right you can click water pump or water pump gasket and look at what is there.

It is a thermostat housing gasket. We got it at the local dealer for $5.
Thanks David P.S. We just finished the car about 2 hours ago. It isn't smoking, and it has power.
