Yes, a very clean little car. It could be last of its kind with wing windows and column shift that lunatics like me prefer to regular stick shift....... and zero headrests, never had em...... manual sunroof?? Truly its the bare-bones benz that reminds us why we prefer vintage cars - either 111's, 108's or 116's / 4.5's, 280's, 4 cyls or even diesels.... the motiffe remains the same.

Was this brought over from Germany? (pre-Euro plates) Its awfully nice, actually looking at those pics is depressing to one who owns a similar car that needs a headliner, a new dash and paint and . . . OTOH I bet mine hums along at freeway speeds better than yours, owing to stick shift, a '75 230 engine, Crane Cams ingnition, Weber 32/36 carb and taller gear ratio in the differential. I love my 220, its such a pleasure to drive!

Yeah, how was this European car imported without adaptations like USA headlights, headrests, emissions, etc? Could it have been snuck in under military cover? Hell, the price paid for it sounds about equal to expense of importing and legitimatizing the beast.

Am wondering if PO tried to register the 200/8 - then flunked under strict Maryland guidelines - with car ending up at junkyard parking lot where the PO passed out on discovering expense of making it street legal for Maryland plates.

I had to fenagle with insurance company and Connecticut DMV myself last Summer because they were picky about recognizing Euro serial number on my grey market stick shift 116/ 280SEL.

What a cool car. I had never heard of manual column shift in a 114/115.
How does it run?

No way would the PO abandon a car that nice, unless they had cacked. didier240d, do you have to do something special to make it legal in Maryland? Something difficult enough to make someone dump it?

$1200 bucks for that is unreal.

Junkies are notoriously secretive about where they get their cars. This amazing 200/8 appears never to have been registered in the USA..... makin me think it was either blackballed as illegal grey-market car at US customs or the owner cut bait and ran away from new seats with headrests, impossible to find in matching color, and headlights that could have pushed this vehicle over the top after paying tariffs, taxes and shipping costs. Either way, the junkyard would have scarfed the car at auction.

What we need is somebody knowledgable about grey-market restrictions to step on this thread. And where the hell is didier240? C'mon dude, you gotta say something about this.

Sure it's a '71? Could be a '68. Didn't have headrests until '69s. Looks like it has the small headlight switch that was on the 68s & 69s also.

Check carefully 240DieselDog, it's didier240d

He's not going to hear you otherwise.

Seems like they need to re-import it to Germany if they have to make all those upgrades to register it. My Fintail has no headrests, shoulder belts only and Euro lights, I hope they don't come after me next. They must have hauled didier240d off already!

We've gotta do something! SAVE didier240d, free him/her now!

didier240d, just consider exporting that car to California!
I want that car, then I won't have to paint mine! I just might like a column shift! Let me know when you get tired of it!
