If you're going to do something...
You might as well do it right. I've never been one to do a half-assed job myself. So since I dropped a (rather large) piece of an injector seal down into the manifold (well, it fell apart and slipped down but... details ), I decided to redo the manifold seals, and clean the inside of it out (remove the carbon deposits, crud, etc). I also discovered that, in my rush, I improperly installed the injector seals on the LH side of the engine.
Other than the 4 new injector seals (to replace the ones I did wrong resulting in them being crushed) and the 8 plenum gaskets, what else should I replace (if anything)? Where can I get those "plastic" lines that are attatched to the cold start valve, idle air control, etc? (Mine were as hard as plastic and cracked immediatley). Thanks in advance - I'm hoping this will really help cure any power loss/rich running!

Be careful that you don't fall into the 'might as well' syndrome. The 'MAW" syndrome goes like this. I've got the manifold off I 'might as well' to a valve job. I've got the heads off I 'MAW' do the rings. Etc., etc. Gets very costly very quickly.
You can get the plastic vacuum lines at the MB dealer. I just got a meter or so. Be sure to specify the exact diameter. There are a couple of sizes. Also check the little rubber elbows. If the lines are going the elbows aren't far behind. |

You are replacing the manifold gaskets aren't you? I am talking about the ones that go to the head.

Hrmph...
My intake manifold seals stayed intact completely and look very clean and are (in my opinion) quite fine - new ones would be a waste! I hope my dealer has these seals - I don't feel like waiting 3 more days, and I need to look there for those heater valve rings too.

So you are not going to replace the gaskets that I was talking about?

At the time of the initial post(s) I didn't have the manifiolds off.
After removing them, I see that the seals didn't tear apart - I thought they were cheap "paper" ones but are pretty substantial. I don't think I need new ones at all. Just the plenum gaskets (because they were hard, even though they didn't leak) and 4 injectior seals. And an aux air valve gasket - that's the cheap paper type I thought the intake ones would be!

Tom, I'm curious as to how you installed the injector seals wrong and what the affect was. I just did mine and now you have me wondering if I did the same thing.

I was in a rush and it was dark, and I wasn't thinking. I put them around the injectors and popped them in (still on the rail). The result was that the seals didn't go fully into the manifold/port and that the one edge of each one was crushed as a result.

I replaced my injector seals when I was doing all of the crap to my car, and ever since then I have noticed that the power is not the same.

If you put them into the ports by hand and push them in using a finger, you ensure they go in straight - if you then put the injectors in, it's foolproof. Do it the other way and you either have to do the injectors one by one and reattatch them to the rail after they're tightened, or make absolutely certian that each injector is exactly perpendicular to the port. Take the rail off and look at the seals. They should stay in the ports (not come out w/injectors) if they're in right, and should look as if they sit in squarely and snug.
